Review of the BlackBerry Q10

The BlackBerry Q10, released May 2013, is a revolution for smartphones alike as this new little piece of business technology hosts a physical keyboard, unlike its current market competitors, the Samsung Galaxy S4 or the HTC One. At the cost of around £580.00, this smartphone is priced at top end for mobile phones and smartphones. Having the physical keyboard isn’t necessarily a bonus either, although I must admit it certainly does make typing e mails and texts easier. With the keyboard in mind, the screen is unfortunately not as generous as you will find on the Samsung Galaxy G4 or HTC One, with a 3.1 inch screen. BlackBerry have, however, included a super AMOLED display on the Q10 which is fairly impressive with the added bonus of them tweeting the display to enable pixels to remain low during usage, thus saving on battery power which we all know can be a huge problem with these smartphones. With minimum usage, you could easily get 12 hours battery from your BlackBerry Q10, with regular usage, sis lay 8-10 hours. Not bad considering smartphones are generally prone to drinking battery power when in use.

The BlackBerry Q10 hosts a 2GB RAM with a 1.5Ghz duel-core processor with 16GB of internal storage with the option of using a microSD card to boost this up to 32GB of storage.

The reviews on this phone has been extremely positive however the release of the Samsung Galaxy S4 at practically the same time will have, I suspect, made a slight difference to the sales figures. Even so, BlackBerry seem to have cornered all areas of the market with the phone. Not only do they attract the most prolific smartphone users, they have also, quite successfully, secured the business market. This is the ultimate business tool with the added benefit of the sophistication of a smartphone. Sadly this phone lacks decent apps and the battery casing is placed in a position where it slides off every time you remove the phone from its casing, however it’s sleek, sexy and extremely responsive, and I do believe BlackBerry have managed to stay top of their game with the Q10.

Samsung Galaxy s4 – superphone or superficial….?

With the recent release of the eagerly awaited Samsung Galaxy S4, the press has been flooded with excellent reviews, fabulous pictures and a long list of prospective purchases waiting to try out their glossy new handset. But what exactly is it about this new piece of top-end technology that has us all looking at our previously loved iPhone 5s, willing for our upgrade dates to come quicker!?

Well, this super new smartphone certainly looks like the real deal with its sleek and sexy casing, not too dissimilar to the Apple iPhone, holding this beauty in the palm of your hands, you feel like you have the most up to date, top end technology at your fingertips. Samsung, has reportedly sold over 10 million of their Galaxy 4S smartphones since its launch in April, to over 155 countries making Samsung one of the biggest sellers of the smartphone to date. The Galaxy S4, although looking like a rather oversized object, is in fact no bigger than its predecessor at 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9mm, still fits perfectly into the palm of your hand. The Galaxy S4 has surprisingly the same amount of pixels that you would have found in a television of a decent standard from a few years ago, with a sharp 5 inch, full HD screen, the picture is somewhat amazing with this slightly bigger screen, this phone is a joy to watch, handle and play with. Although this smartphone has been likened to similar models on the market, like the HTC One, the Sony Experia Z and the Apple IPhone 5, the Galaxy 4S hosts pure excellence of the added AMOLED HD screen, making this currently unique handset, truly encapsulating.

On the technical side of things, this Samsung smartphone offers a 2GB or RAM, a powerful quad-core processer with 4G connectivity making connection as smooth as possible, a 13-megapixel camera, and a whole host of Samsung’s spectacular software add-on’s, making this one of the most top-of-the-range handsets on the market today. The cost of this beauty is as hugely impressive as the model itself. At around £580 for the glory of owning this goddess, you’ll be foolish not to check out the numerous deals with different mobile phone providers like Vodafone, Orange, O2, T-mobile and so on… They will all have different offers on and various contract they will expect you to adhere to, just make sure you get the right one for you and at the right price. Finally, if I was looking for a negative in this currently impressive top of the range smartphone, I would say that I’m not too impressed with the plastic casing the Galaxy S4 presents itself in. it’s very much the same as the S3 and if you are upgrading from the Galaxy S3 to the S4, then you’ll need to shout this from the roof tops as I doubt anyone would know the difference at first sight. I feel they had could had improved the casing and jiggled things around a little but even so, I’m absolutely thrilled with this piece of technological excellence. Superphone or Superficial…? I’d say superphone through and through!

Blackberry Q5 – yummy new budget smartphone?

With the impending launch of the new Blackberry Q5 set for July 2013, I wonder what this new piece of technology will bring? This new smartphone is supposingly the budget version of the Blackberry Q10, although visually this new mobile telephone ticks all the boxes for me, I suspect there may be some short fallings somewhere in order to deliver to the mid-range sector of the mobile phone industry. The Blackberry Q5 is not too dissimular to the Blackberry Q10, with specification almost meeting up to the Q10′s standards where budget allowed and the same dual-core processers although at the lower speed of 1.2GHz instead of 1.5GHz for the Blackberry Q10.

The Blackberry Q5 can also, i assume, be forgiven for offering an LCD screen which is, I must admit, the same 3.1 inches and 720 x 720 resolution, yet not quite up to the standards of the Amoled screen hosted on the Blackberry Q10. The dimensions of the Q5 and almost exactly the same as the Q10, however you’ll find the Blackberry Q5 handset slightly lighter, yet not in the slightest bit flimsy.

The Blackberry Q5 has been blessed with the same software as the Blackberry Q10 as well as the same connectivity, the only thing missing is the HDMI display outlet. There is also one fabulous perk to having this mid-range smartphone and that is the casing. You have a choice of 4 colours when selecting your mobile telephone, which includes black, white, pink and red! This lightweight, sturdy, colourful piece of smartphone technology may not quite offer the full package like the Blackberry Q10 or the delights of the new Samsung Galaxy S4, however it sure does come a close second and alongside it s affordability factor, this mobile telephone is one to watch. I’m certain this smartphone will deliver all that is required for the user with the slightest of ease, comfort and style.
